Genuinely surprised they're starting to use real banana leaf again. I can always rely on Kanna for good banana leaf rice (BLR), especially the deep fried squid; ample squish (for the lack of better term) together with fried onions. The curry is a godsend because I'm salivating as I'm typing this. One thing lacking for Kanna though is the fried bitter gourds. They're consistently too burnt, leaving a bitter taste and you need to pay extra for them so I suggest forgo that. Otherwise, Kanna is still a reliable and consistently good BLR place.
It's a must place to have banana leaf whenever I'm in Kuala Lumpur. If you are looking for pure authentic indian treats,it is definitely at Kanna Curry House. Offering delicious curries & other varieties of colourful dishes, that will leave you with a lingering desire for their food. Everything is served hot;the chicken, fish and oh ya the deep-fried squids is flavoursome. I usually wrap up my meal with a glass of Hot Coffee/Teh Tarik to jazz up the remaining sensation in my mouth. Anyways,my recommendation would be the mutton varuval, crab curry, chicken kurma,deep-fried squids, chicken&fish. Well,it's your turn now to know about your favourites at Kanna Curry House.
Very delicious crab fried π. I & my boyfriend always go there for breakfast & lunch. Please walk carefully near the hand wash place cause itβs kinda slippery there. βΊοΈ
A good place to eat with good portion. The curry os good. The squid however will let you down. They will coat it with some kind of flour and you will ended up with more onions than squid in your plate. The papadom sometimes taste waaayyy too salty.
Food = good Indian food. "Roti canai" (the Malaysian version of Malabar parotta) is superb. Rava tosai is good. Banana leaf meal comes with a standard rice+2 vegetable items+curry+dhall+pickle+papadom (lentil chips)+rasam (Indian soup) ... and you can add chicken/mutton dishes ... also available are their awesome "you choose I fry" options of fresh seafood, fish and chicken that are fried right as you choose them.
Ambiance = very clean and service is fast
What can be improved = I do not like their plastic banana leaf! Prefer a proper serving plate or an original banana leaf.
It is okay for me. The curry is soooooooooooo delicious tapi haritu ada 1 time I ordered sotong goreng tp bila dpt bnyk bawang jeππππππππ
Not bad for a mamak, ordering fast and the food portion allot for banana leaf. Except order beverage is abit slow. Overall 3.5 π.
My rating 5 star is base on :
1. Environment 1π (clean for a mamak place)
2. Customer Ordering 1π (good & the waiter polite)
3. Food & Beverage 0.5π (taste funny lemon tea)
4. Timing 0π (reason drink is came very late)
5. Price 1π (RM6.9 a banana leaf without meat reasonable price)
I went there for a several time. I like there thosai, idle, roti chanai. Food are tasty and cheaper. Service also good. Most of the time its been crowded so not to spend a lot of time there.
While my recent visit to KL, I ate here along with my Malaysian colleagues who are regulars at this outlet. I must say that it felt great to eat here as the food was simply lovely.
The service is quick and the meals are prepared wonderfully well. For anyone wishing to have a quick bite this is a lovely place in PJ.
The service is fast, yet it's pricey. For the rotti bomm(not sure if I got the spelling correctly), which is my favorite whenever I go Indian shops/mamak is not the same as what I expected as it's not sweet. They only use planta(sigh**). Rotti canai and dhal is quite good though.
Been there on Sunday morning for breakfast and was amazed to see the crowd. It was packed to say the least. The good thing is that service is really fast and hence you can grab a quick meal . I tried the onion dosai... Which was nice . The flavours were quite authentic . They do have a good spread and need to visit a couple of more times . I have heard the vada is also very good .
Still my favourite banana leaf rice goto. Yes very mahal. Yes very packed. Yes parking is bad. But the lauk still very good. Service is fast. It's not like I banana leaf every week, so I think of it as a little treat.
Whenever I want to have South Indian good which isn't too oily and spicy, I land up at kanna curry house. One of the best banana leaf curry houses around. The food is always fresh and wholesome and not as expensive as a kayu.
Head over to Kanna for some deep-fried goodness. My favorite is the deep fried squid made upon request. Been going to this restaurant for years, great service, fairly clean and the food is amazingggg! Only problem is to look for parking....
By working in this area for long time, and whenever my colleague craving for banana leaf rice, we would always end up in Kanna Curry House which located in Section 17. Be advise to come here earlier to avoid crazy crowd and also parking problems. Most of them would double park and parking would be havoc especially if you do come on Friday lunch time.
My first Zomato review outside of Indonesia! Well, Malaysia is technically my second home, because I did live here for 10 years before moving back in to Jakarta to work. This weekend, I'm in the lovely town of Kuala Lumpur on a quick holiday!
My Malaysianized taste buds have been yearning for local favorites such as maggi goreng, nasi lemak, chicken rice, roti canai and most importantly, Indian banana leaf rice!
Usually, I'd go to Sri Nirwana Maju in Bangsar for my usual banana leaf fix, but the weekend traffic in Bangsar was just not accommodating, so I looked for an alternative, and my mom suggested Kanna Curry House that is located at Petaling Jaya section 17, and boy how I was satisfied!
It may not serve my favorite crunchy cucumber like the one in Nirwana, but to me, they taste equally awesome, and as soon as my tongue made contact with the dhaal, I knew I was in for a treat that I have yearning for over a year!
I paired the rice set with my favorite side dish that is fried tenggiri and fried sotong; this time, we also ordered fried bulus and fried Senangin, and boy, they are now my new favorite fishes!
Oh, another new favorite of mine is a glass of Teh Masala that I ordered; usually, I'd order teh tarik but then, Teh Masala just have more flavour and J think the spices used in it went really well with all the curry spices on the meals!
Cravjng satisfied, and once I return to Jakarta on this coming Monday, I could already feel how the banana lead rice will become the dish I yearn the most again!
If you're looking for a hearty meal you're going to get it here. Banana leaf rice hits the spot where it matters. Good, tasty curry coupled with freshly fried aromatic chicken, fish. Have a varuvel.
The fried squid is good but beware of the price.
Expect to pay RM15-20 per person plus drinks.
The only true downside of this place is the inconsistent service and fake banana leaf. Would rate it higher if it weren't for these. If all else fails in terms of service, look for Murugan who's friendly and always makes sure you're attended to.
Personally prefer the branch at Jalan Gasing, but if you're around Section 17 and craving for banana leaf rice, go right ahead. Beware of food coma.
