Edo Ichi

Scrumptious japanese food at an affordable price. First off, unagi fried roll, and boy was it filled with unagi pieces, taste it while it's hot, totally worth the price. Second, the salmon mentai island roll, not a "wow" but still tastes good. The sashimi was an add-on to a weekly promotion set meal which costs RM9.30. The ambiance here is quite comfortable, the songs they play is a huge plus point though. Heads up, Parkson card member gets 10% off their total bill.

The salmon combo is really fresh and good! I feel the salmon roe is too much. Should reduce the roe and increase sashimi!
The pan grill US short rib was under seasoned and tasteless. There's no salt of pepper to give it a bit of flavour. Sauces come with it though.
Duck slices were amazing! It comes with this brown sauce that gives the same heat as wasabi! Fuu... the raw onions underneath the meat slices should be slightly sautéed. Nobody likes it Raw.
Clam soup in Japanese wine was pretty good.
The unagi crispy roll was nice but I think there's some cheese sauce inside. I don't like cheese btw. They should write what's inside on the menu.

Great staff but the food was pretty slow.

We decided to explore Bangsar South for our New Year’s celebration and we stumbled upon Edo Ichi. We decided to give it a try without much expectations. We did not know that we were bound to say: “I do” to the goodness on their plates. Our little one called it dibs when he tasted Edo Ichi’s grilled salmon. The juicy, pinkish, and tender texture of the salmon were absolutely notable qualities of freshness.

Whilst I love the cuisine, I did not expect to stay in KL and spend the first two nights eating Japanese! As from my previous restaurant review in KL, I found myself gravitating to Japanese because I love the freshness and the variety and it's a bit of an easy option when tired after a long day at work! To boot, it's actually not easy to find a decent Malaysian restaurant in this part of the city. I'm sure someone would tell me that a few streets back there is something and I look forward to finding that out for future visits.

Again I opted for the bento box, if the restaurant is genuine Japanese and not just sushi and attempted tempura then it's a great way to sample what they have. I was not disappointed with Edo Ichi. The food was fresh and the miso soup and the savoury custard were flavoursome. The food arrived quickly and it rapid succession without all being dumped on the table at once.

The tempura was light, the beef was tender and well cooked. The sashimi was a little clumsy in how it was sliced, especially when compared to their upstairs competition. Nothing to complain about, it just did not have the finesse that such a simple dish requires.

The difference between the two restaurants? Edo Ichi is on the ground floor so obviously attracts more diners passing by and that meant that the atmosphere was a lot better than the previous nights dining upstairs. However the food upstairs is just that slight bit better, a little more refined and it just felt slightly more traditional. Interestingly, the cost for the bento and a couple of beers was exactly MYR1.50 difference so there's nothing really there to separate the two restaurants.
