A bit pricey but food was very good
Initially wanted to eat a different shop, but after being unable to locate that shop - decided to give this restaurant a try. Definitely worth it :)
Food:
Ordered the Salmon Sashimi Set + Dragon Roll + Soft Shell Crab Roll + 2 Hot Water + Green Tea Ice Cream. Salmon Sashimi Set came in 5 thick salmon pieces. It wasn't just thick, but it was so delicious that the salmon taste stayed in my mouth even after I ate it! It also came in a red miso soup (very rich and tasty). The cawanmushi was very tasty and authentic, and better than many places. It also came with a bamboo vegetable thing as well as a Japanese sushi rice. Dragon Roll was truly the highlight of the night. It was basically 6 Unagi meat with the Unagi sauce plated on 6 sushi rice that had cheese and cucumber rolled into it. It was incredibly tasty and very wholesome!!! So glad I ordered this dish! Soft Shell Crab Roll was also nice, but somehow couldn't outshine the Dragon Roll 🔥 But you can taste the delicious soft shell crab rolled in it. The hot water taste like hot water, but the green tea ice cream was quite different. Instead of being your average ice cream, this was more icy like ice shards, but somehow was very green tea-ish. Best of all, came in 2 scoops so it can be shared!
Price:
- Salmon Sashimi Set (RM34.80)
- Dragon Roll (RM19.80)
- Soft Shell Crab Roll (RM19.80)
- 2 x Hot water (RM0.50 each)
- Green Tea Ice Cream (RM6.80)
RM87.15 for all 3 plates + water and ice cream is actually quite affordable for both the taste and portion. They really are generous with what they provide!
Service:
The waiter was very nice to us. He was very patient and kind and humble to us. When we found out he was actually the chef and boss of Ichiro, we were astounded because he instead became the waiter for the shop. We ordered food via the digital tablet and it was very organised and easy. There was a regular customer there who was chatting with the boss a lot, and I could see that the boss is a very friendly person. The hot water was actually not refillable, but the boss personally took our cups and refilled them one time. It was very nice of him.
Ambience:
Came here for dinner on a Thursday at 8.20pm, was actually quite full so we had to wait about 20 minutes. But thankfully they had a very long bench we could sit outside and wait. Only one family in queue ahead of us. It has a very nice interior ambience. Even though the seating was not very spacious, the boss made sure everyone had their private space and not squeeze everyone together at the sushi bar.
Overall Experience:
Came here after not finding a shop we wanted to try. But am glad that I stumbled upon this mini gem in 1U. I would recommend coming back here and eating that Salmon Sashimi Set and Dragon Roll again! Many customers were eating them Chawanmushi, so do give that a go! :)
Craving for japanese food after a long day, I went to Zomato for a consultation. Got this sushi bar with a good review and a good walking distance, so I gave it a go. Ordering my usual fav, salmon don, it was good cut of salmon, generous amount of salmon roe, on top of white sushi rice. Got a set with cawan mushi (nice one) and miso soup (a little bit salty but still good).

Came here whilst on a holiday.
Ambience : 4/5. Located inside Isetan One Utama with least human traffic, this place is easy to miss. Once discovered this small place is nicely lit with warm inviting lights.
Food : 5/5. Sashimi is very fresh especially the salmon belly. Unagi and soft shell crab were cooked to perfection. Portions were generous.
Service: 3/5. The only thing that’s lacking is the customer service. Servers were not very attentive when it comes to refilling water for green tea but very quick to clear the table, it was as soon as you take the last bite. Requested to refill cold water but was declined. What a shame.
Overall the food was great. However, will recommend this place to anyone who do not mind a 2 star hospitality.
Authentic Japanese cuisine with fresh ingredient. Order by using iPad, easy to use and staff are attentive as well. Hiding inside of isetan, One utama. Great place if you’re looking for something different that the usual Japanese restaurant. Unagi taste amazing thou 👍🏻
Another great Japanese place with fresh and authentic food. I remembered the long queue when I went there the first time with my BBFs. We wanted to order grilled salmon head but they were out of order so we had yellow tail instead. Both dragon roll and volcano roll were nice. The staff were also very attentive, friendly and polite. There is really nothing you can complain.
I frequent this place as I find a lot of their food pretty good and bears some resemblence to what you could get in Japan.
Sushi - really good (in Malaysia terms) whereby ingredients were fresh and the sushi you get at their RM98 set price point is really value for money. THE MOST IMPORTANT part is that the sushi rice is room temperature and not cold. How many sushi restaurants screw this up 😂.
Red Miso Soup - has a robust taste, one of the better ones in Malaysia. (This doesn't compare to those in Japan though as it isn't very harmonizing with the other dishes and probably uses alot of ajinomoto)
Chawanmushi - is also on another level whereby there are a few layers of taste, not just saltiness you usually find in many other japanese restaurants.
Tempura Don - okay-ish, there's an overpowering oil taste to it and it really dampens the enjoyment of this dish, not recommended.
Negitoro Don - is pretty good. Very fresh mince fatty tuna with spring onion and seaweed paired with warm japanese rice. Noticed they decided to use sushi rice for this dish which is awesome as it adds another layer of vinegar taste to this dish.
Rolls - Not a big fan of their rolls in general though as I find there's an overuse of either cheese or mayo which completely destroys any other taste in the rolls.
Salmon Sashimi Set - this lunch and dinner set is the most value for money. For 35 bucks you get 5 really thick cut salmon sashimi, rice, red miso soup, chawanmushi and fried salmon appetizer. Let me share a secret to bringing your rice and soup to the next level... mix some rice into your red miso soup and eat it that way, it's amazing.
Recently the salmon sashimi size has shrunk a little and sometimes I end up with dry hard rice. They need to buck up else it's gonna spiral...
This is my FAVOURITE Japanese restaurant. It has the authentic Japanese sushi bar feels and most importantly, the food is as good as it looks.
Favorite sushi place. The sushi and sashimi are freshly made by Japanese chefs. Been here for more than 5 times and their quality and service never fails. Their sets (Hana, Yuki, or Tsuki) is great value for money.
You pay for what you get.
On my first visit, I ordered the Salmon Ikura Don costing RM40. Although it was a little more pricey than the typical meal in KL but BOY was it worth the price. Usually for RM20+ bowls elsewhere I end up finishing the salmon ikura way before touching half the rice, but this time there was enough ikura long into the meal. My dinner guest was also impressed by their generous salmon cuts! Not to mention, they serve generous scoops of ice cream :D
10/10 will return!

Hidden treasure in 1 Utama ... good and fresh salmon sashimi in PJ . This is it ! Best cuts , good fats .. the chawamushi - eat here and others are not as good anymore in your mouth
Small, intimate, not big on ambiance but big on service and taste! Tucked in the rear, this hideaway lets the food speak for itself. While there are booths for dining, it is best to sit right at the sushi bar so you can watch the masters with their superior knife skills shine and prepare the meal right in front of you. While the sushi is predictably excellent, I was truly captivated with the exceptional cuts of smooth, deep-red tuna. Sets at lunch hour comes with Miso soup, Chawan mushi and Green tea ice cream. To me, indulging in these treats is a great lighter choice when it’s super hot out, and yet absolutely satisfies my particularly hungry belly.
Nice fresh salmon ikura don. Definitely good quality worth for money. Try the lunch set for good deal. Sushi to go for is volcano roll: creamy hokkaido scallop 👍👍
Their lunch deals are pretty good. Chirashi bowl looks like a very popular item, seems likes everyone loves ordering it! Will definitely return for their Chirashi bowl!. P/S: This is a very small place, and it's good if you're going with one friend. This lady went with in a party of 3 and started yelling at theirs staffs asking why is there no proper seat for the 3rd person. Well, the place is full and it's always full so what do you expect... She insisted to take the table for two but they couldn't accommodate. So seriously, if they can't take you please don't force them... Dine elsewhere.
I always choose to sit at the bar, so I can watch the Japanese chef prepare my nigiri, see how he cuts the fish, mounds the rice, shapes the nigiri, and presents every piece of sushi nicely on the plate. Their otoro nigiri is of quality and quantity. No kidding, I didn't pay RM55 for a pair of sushi with thinly sliced sub quality fish. Other than their service, which is a lil off sometimes, everything is impeccable. Even the simplest thing like a crab salad or chawanmushi can make you feel like you're on cloud9.
