Good food, good service but I think this place is over rated. Listed as one of the top cafe in KL, but for me, it's just so so. Nothing's special. Ambiance and interior not that instagramable. Everything inside is black and dark. Espresso has that sour taste which i dont like. Price slightly high. Wondering why the rating is pretty high.

Never had a soft shell crab burger before and i was blown away! It was the perfect combination of fluffy bun, umami filled crab and the saucy egg made it even more spectacular
I went to this cafe specially to check their French toast. The toast was fluffy and it is served with ice cream. It would be good if they offer it with other toppings too. The ice cream was ok. The portion is fine. The latte was warm not hot and the taste of milk is more than the coffee which was rather disappointing. The ambience is cosy although rather noisy if it rains.still it was very nice. The service was exellent. Food was served promptly and tables are cleaned quickly. Prices are reasonable. I will certainly come back to try their breakfast.

Nice brunch here at VCR. The exterior is nice and I wish the interior had a bit more natural light as everything inside was black and decor was dark wood. The coffee was a bit bitter for my liking and the juice was nice. The potato waffle dish I ordered I really liked, as it had nice runny eggs and the sauce was tasty. The big breakfast my partner ordered had nicely cooked eggs and tasty turkey bacon. The little green salad was unnecessary and he would have preferred having more bread. Overall good meal.

Amazing place for brunch, being vegetarian in KL we are in love with the brunch places and VCR is one of them, the food is yummy. We had potato waffle with mushrooms on top and the other is chickpeas based dish which was so yummy that I don't think we are ever getting bored of this anytime soon , my husband loved it. The breads are fresh and coffee is good too. Not a place to be missed for brunch
Good place, good food, and truly good vibes indeed. Definitely my fave cafe in KL. Used to came there at weekday brunch time, not really crowded and lot of table option to choose.
The food just amazing as always. You just get exactly like what you expected on your mind. Although my VCR Breakie have a lamb bolognese in there which still have these ‘lamb smell’, but still can enjoy it anyway. Love and looking forward to come back soon!

Whats not to love about VCR?! Lovely cakes, yummy soft shell crabs, Instagram worthy deco. I think food/drink servings really depend on the number of crowd on that day. You might get cold/less tasty food if they are busy but this is totally understandable. During my visit on a weekend, there were plenty of open tables and food were served on a timely manner (15 min ish).

Nice place to enjoy the rest of the day. Hommy atmosphere near Bukit Bintang. Coffee is outstanding, big portion of meal and enough to share with. I loved to enjoy the coffee in their terrace rather than overly crowded hall inside.
Will surely come back here. The food are all worth every penny. The French toast is something I couldn’t ask for more. Hope the cafe can sustain for yearssss to come!
Absolutely loved the aesthetic of this place. It’s such a cozy place to chill out and do some work. I’ve been to both this outlet and the one in bangsar and I feel this is slightly more home-y. The food came real quick and tasted scrumptious! The crab burger (thingy) was better than expected and the french toast was fantastic, came with coffee ice cream, so keeping that in mind for those who aren’t coffee lovers. But overall it was a great experience! One thing though, the tables are really small and feel abit flimsy 😅, otherwise all good!
One of the best coffee shop I ever been. Since the first time I went here (around 2015), I love their cappuccino and mocha, and still love it til now. Their food and cakes are also good.
Yay finally managed to bring my husband and kids here for brunch! Their soft shell crab burger is the best one my husband had so far and Im satisfied with my surf and turf meal. Well, what attracting me to come was actually to feel the ambience and experiencing the atmosphere here since the interior and exterior of this place were pretty cool. Its not really a baby friendly place I must say but comfortable enough for small family like us. Will come back for other menu! Last but not least, my son loves their baked cheese cake!
Nice ambience to work and/or chat over a cup of coffee (their latté is superb). Studious environment upstairs, and I especially like the outdoor seats. Try the VCR Big Breakfast (get the Turkey hams and scrambled eggs option). Although it might seem slightly pricey than what the other cafés can offer, what you pay for is what you get and what you'll get is an unforgettable gastronomical experience, so I'll say it's worth it.
ordered the unagi affair, potato waffle and avocado toast: simple tasting flavours and delicate to the tongue but really good nonetheless! the unagi texture was uniquely tough, unlike your typical Japanese unagi which made it exceptionally delicious! the cinnamon roll, although unique looking, just tasted like your average cinnamon roll but it was fluffy which was pleasant. overall, a really pleasant experience! the service to offer you a table was efficient.
Good coffee and amazing foos. Have to wait a little for a table but if you like a good ambience and coffee, you’ll enjoy it here. Upstairs seating might get a bit less attention due to business in the restaurant.
The staff there advised us to order the naked king cake which is a banana cake with a peanut butter cream and it is one of the best cake ever :) The ambience is peaceful and calm. It would probably make a good place to do work or to relax. I would definitely come here again for the cakes
First time to try out this place, it was very cozy. We had ordered the Avocado Toast and Mushroom Quiche. The quiche was soft, not salty and cooked well. The salad on the side was a good complement to it. Same with the toast, having the light salad. The avocado was smooth and the spread mixed to it was good. Would love to try the other food items and coffee on the menu on my next visit.

VCR has two outlets but we went to this one as it had higher ratings. The cafe is self-ordering however service outside of that was great. The food is expensive compared to more local foods but it’s one of the nicer cafes around.
The ambiance is nice, but a bit crowded.
The coffee is good, i also ordered a croissant which was below average.
The food looks delicious but didn’t try it though.
I had some work to do so i used their wifi which is pretty fast

It's a truly nice cafe where food and ambience can both be enjoyed. It's a good place nice options. The good is tasty portions are not bad. The only one thing they can work on is the seating. I find it not too comfortable or rather the table and chairs height are not accurate.
From the moment you walk in to this coffee shop you know right away how amazing it is. I was carrying my bags & they offered to store them for me so I can find a place to sit. Their customer service is what makes it a must visit. Will definitely be coming back here whenever I visit KL.

From outside it looked not so crowded during our visit. The building looked like an old house painted in black and located not in a very busy street. When we got inside it was quite crowded and the barista direct us to second floor at the sofa. The second floor was more crowded but the ambience was still great and felt relaxing.
- ethiopia manual brew: it has a complex character with sweet fruit notes, a little bit of floral aroma at the end with clean aftertaste. Personally I quite like it.
- raspberry royale: good infusion. Has a balanced body
- cafe latte and mocha latte: it tasted great. The coffee was extracted perfectly and fragrant
- surf n turf: 1 portion is enough for my brunch. 2 medium loaf of bread with scrambled egg and nice aroma of truffle oil really brought my appetite.
- unagi affair: they used quite a thick eel meat and put inside a small croissant. It was great
- vcr big breakfast: literally a big portion. Not suitable for small eaters
- avocado toast: good presentation but I didn't get a chance to try it. However my friend said pretty good though the bread was too chewy for him
- turkish style egg: one if the unique dish here. Although they serve it in a small plate, it's very filling and delicious
- chocolate pie (vahlrona): the crust was bot so sweet but the chocolate tasted amazing. It blend perfectly and seems melted in mouth
The baristas were friendly although the place was quite crowded. Totally a must visit place when you were in this neighborhood
Top notch coffee served here. Never fails to hit the spot. They have a pretty decent selection of cakes, teas and bottled sodas as well. Try their Valrhona iced chocolate drink if you’re not a fan of caffeine. You will be pleasantly surprised. Have not had the opportunity to try their mains yet. Definitely need to schedule another visit soon.

Been here once on a public holiday and I would say the cafe is quite hard to locate. It is walking distance from MRT Hang Tuah and tucked in a row of shoplots nearby a police station. As Klangites we were not at all familiar with the roads in KL so I thought we were lost when Google Maps directed us to the cafe. The area is quite secluded and there's not much traffic there.
Environment is pretty cosy, perfect for chilling and catching up with friends. They offer brunch but we just tried their cakes and beverages. We ordered their Flat White and Lemonade. Both are unsweetened and they only provide brown sugar. Yes... not even white sugar but I guess it's a healthier alternative so kudos to that??? Both beverages are so so only.
For the cakes we ordered Classic Chocolate and The King (both RM12 per slice). Classic Chooclate is a typical but solid chocolate cake, rich and decadent but nothing special about it either. The King is a banana cake with peanut butter icing. The peanut buttercream has a balance of sweet and saltiness which really complements the banana flavour. The cake itself is fluffy and crumbly. The combination of the icing, banana slices and cake is just simply heavenly and makes it one of the best cakes that I've had. Highly recommend a try for The King.
First time and won’t be our last time! We’ll be back!

Went here on a Tuesday morning around 9am. Only few tables were occupied at the time but after half an hour, the cafe almost full already. Recommended for friends and family for chit chat but not for study as the cafe got super busy and noisy. The latte tasted okay, just okay.

Trendy cafe, serving more western inspired food. I entered a minute before 9am and was informed that they don't take food orders until 9am. A bit pedantic, but I grabbed a tea to start and waited. The potato waffle had a great consistency; crispy on the outside and light on the inside. It was topped with mushrooms, 63 degree eggs and salsa.

Been hearing about this popular place for some time and finally got the chance to pay a visit here. Great ambience great food. The downside, parking may be a difficulty and the cafe has limited space.

Went there this morning. Fairly pricey but if its good I usually don't mind. Got the flat white, which was good, with avacado toast, also good. Neither was great. Very crowded. I had to sit outside with the resident cats... 😒.... and some dude started smoking there.

The food was great and filling. I love their french toast. The ice cream is marvellous. Very private and nice place to sit and have a moment or chat. Wish they can put some blinds cause some seata are by the window ans as it gets hotter in the afternoon.

This is one of best place to have breakfast as they open as early as 8:30AM. Their big breakfast is complete unlike some places where its very basic but prices are always high. This one's totally worth it and it's very filling.
Their coffee can be considered as one of the best I've ever tried. They also won in the championship of latte art, fun fact 😉
I've tried their cakes, but out of all, I seriously love their yuzu cheesecake. It's amazing, lighter than their raspberry cheesecake but it's the most satisfying cheesecake ever from my opinion.
The environment is truly something special especially for tourists as we can experience the space inside an old building. Of course it's modernized but we can still feel the vibe with the old windows and wooden flooring. On sunny mornings, I prefer sitting outside where the house cats are out to play and it's shaded with trees, felt like I was on a vacay as it is very peaceful outside. But their best spot would be upstairs by the glass windows.
Their service never changes. It's consistently good and as expected, the staff are quite friendly even on busy days. Love it here.

I believe that VCR is one of the few Malaysian cafes who could give top Melbourne cafes a run for their money. Ambience is an industrial delight, used to be a movie renting business hence their name. And before that in 1927 was home to Pudu prison wardens, which explains the name of the street - Jalan Galloway. Apparently there was indeed a Mr. Galloway who was in charge of the gallows!
First tried their French toast in 2015, it was so good that I still have it as my iPad wallpaper till this day. During our recent visit a reunion with le French toast was inevitable. The same fluffy brioche toast greeted me like an old friend with sides of espresso ice cream and raspberry compote, finishing off with the crunchy crumbles. Smoked duck quiche was delicious! Chef Ivan did an amazing job in curating a French inspired menu with fresh local ingredients. Other foodie blogs states that he even visits his suppliers to source the freshest ingredients, such level of attention to detail have clearly translated to the beauty that is on our plates. Will definitely pop by for brunch the next time we are back home.

Awesome food. Went here around 11 for brunch with sis and bro in law, out of indoor seating, so we sat on the balcony. Service was really good, staff- attentive. We had the avocado toast, big breakfast, crab burger, lemon pie and the peanut butter and banana cake.
By far, the best cafe serving breakfast we've been to. Would definitely visit again

It's been a while I haven't been here. To tell you the truth, this is actually my first visit this year. I'm pretty sure most of you guys know this place, it's very popular here in kl.
Just like Feeka Coffee Roasters, they offer many great dishes and beverages. It's the place where good things never gets old and it always feels like home. Well done.

I came to VCR twice in a row during my short getaway to KL. Fell in love instantly with their breakfast and brunch options. The place is small and always packed with ppl.
Hot flat white was my favorite kind of coffee drink, and they didn't let me down. My nephew's favorite cake is the yuzu cheese cake, it's so good that he didn't want to share it with us.
What they could improve is providing more baby chair, they only have one at this moment. But I will definitely come back here again when I visit KL.

Anywhere in this black building is so instagrammable. Big breakfast is good with generous portion. Selections of desserts to choose at the counter with self-service station to get your water and sugar.
This is my first time here, and in love with the ambient, maybe is because of the Sunday morning lights :) We ordered an #avocadotoast for breakfast. The portion is good enough for 2 small eater person, and the coffee is GREAT.

The food was amazing...french toast was thick, sweet and donut like. Icecream not too sweet and lovely and creamy. The berry compote was just the right side to cut through all the sweetness...YUM
The chickpea and egg dish...so nice, a mild spice to it and the eggs were nice and runny.
Service was fast friendly and polite.
The only change i would make...coffee could be a little hotter, but thats a personal preference of mine.

From outside it was so not looking like a coffee house, but as soon as we got it the place has a lovely vibe.

One word this is paradise for the breakfast lovers; the French toast came with crumble and ice cream. This is epic stuff.... a toss to the tastebuds ... a complete rollercoaster ride for the taste senses.
The sourdough bread was awesome and had the right sour flavour.
The scrambled eggs were soft and gooey and wow.
The smoked English chocked sausage was juicy and done just right.

Pros : I ordered their Turkey style eggs. It was heaven. The smell of the paprika was just right. Harissa and chickpea heaven indeed, service was OK. The place is quite dramatic as you can watch the sunlight slowly hits the place through the trees beside the building. The seating arrangement is just perfect so you would still have your tranquil personal spot.
Cons : I found none.
Our last coffee shop hopping, we chose VCR because we heard they serve great Coffee, and yes we couldn't agree more! We ordered Iced Latte, Hot Latte, and Piccolo, smelled good and yummy, suit my taste buds. Will definitely come back again and be my top priority to visit on my next trip.

In my opinion, VCR coffee taste better that other coffee shop that i've visit in KL. I ordered ice latte and taste sweet eventhough i didnt add on extra sugar. So yummy! It's so comfy, i could just sit and hang out for hours.
Honestly, the food and coffee here just good and actually not really impressive me. The price is slightly high which is not really matching with the food it serves.
If you wish to have peaceful place to enjoy your food might go upstairs instead downstairs is noisy enough.

Ordered VCR big breakfast (there are a number of options and I picked turkey ham and scrambled eggs) and hot mocha to kick off my day.
It's American style so the portion is huge (and so is the price). Particularly enjoyed the sausage. Eggs served on soft bread and the ham on the side. Served together with vegetable and hence it can be a healthy breakfast option. But, it was a bit too much for me.
Not really a coffee critic but I find my mocha tasted a bit too bitter (the chocolate bitter) for my liking. I could smell the bitterness even before I drank it. Those who are in treat for dark chocolate might like this mocha better than I am, in my opinion.
Classic decoration and set up in an old building. Definitely an artsy place to catch up with friends over coffee (and photos).
